Can You Shower with a Lace Front Wig?

After a long, busy day, the only thing you want to do is hop into the shower and let the hot water run on your shoulders – am I right?

But you might think twice if you’re wearing a lace front wig, fearing the wig will come off or get damaged while you’re showering.

The fact of the matter is that, yes, you can shower with a lace front wig on.

However, you need to do it correctly. Incorrect showering with a lace front wig can weaken adhesives, knots and tangles, and other adverse effects.

How to Shower with a Lace Front Wig on: 7 Steps

You can shower with a lace front wig, but you must be careful about how you do it. Don’t just hop into the shower willy-nilly and expect good results.

Here are the seven simple steps to shower with a lace front wig on:

Tip: Lace front wigs should not be washed regularly like natural human hair. Keep washes limited to once every week or every other week.

1. Brush the Wig Hair

Always start by brushing the hair of your lace front wig with a wide-toothed comb.

This will get rid of any preexisting tangles or knots that can spell trouble while you’re washing your wig in the shower.

2. Double-Check the Security of Your Lace Front Wig

Now that the knots and tangles are removed, it’s time to double-check the security of your wig.

Don’t try to get in the shower if the adhesive is weakening.

You’ll need to strengthen the security before washing your lace front wig in the shower. Otherwise, there is a high likelihood the wig will slip off entirely.

3. Turn the Shower On With Lukewarm Water

If you’re anything like me, then you love a piping hot shower. While this is fine for your body, you should refrain from using high temperatures on your lace front wig.

When it comes time to wash your lace front wig, turn down the heat. The water temperature should be cool to lukewarm.

4. Wet the Wig

It’s time to start the washing process!

To do this, turn around so the shower head is behind you. Then, lean back so the water can get on the hair of your lace front wig.

You never want the shower water to penetrate the forehead area. This can weaken the bond and cause your lace front wig to fall off prematurely.

5. Shampoo Your Lace Front Wig

Now, you can wash your lace front wig like normal. Be gentler and more careful than you would with your normal hair, as you don’t want to damage your wig accidentally.

Also, make sure you’re using a shampoo specifically designed for the type of wig you’re wearing. If nothing else, you can use a sulfate-free shampoo to clean your lace front wig.

6. Rinse and Condition

After lathering your lace front wig with shampoo, you’ll need to rinse until all the shampoo is removed.

Then, you can apply some conditioner designed for lace front wigs.

Allow the conditioner to remain on the wig for a few minutes, then rinse.

If you’re using a leave-in conditioner, you do not need to rinse the conditioner out.

7. Dry

That’s it – you’re done!

Now all that is left is to get out of the shower and use a towel to squeeze the moisture out of your hair gently.

Do not rub, tighten, or be otherwise rough with your wig during the drying process. Again, doing so could weaken bonds and damage the lace front wig.

Always be gentle!
