What is a 5×5 Lace Wig?

I recently wrote an article about what a 4×4 lace wig is, and if you read it, I hope it clarifies everything you wanted to know about 4×4 wigs.

That got me thinking, though – what about 5×5 wigs? I figured it wouldn’t be fair to designate an entire article about 4×4 wigs and leave 5×5 wigs in the dust.

That said, I decided to create this article to share all the must-know information about 5×5 wigs. Below, you will find out what 5×5 wigs are and why they might be the right choice for you.

What is a 5×5 Lace Wig?

The term “5×5” refers to the inches of the lace closure of the wig.

With that in mind, “5×5” means this type of wig is five inches long and wide.

Hair strands are stitched directly into the five-by-five lace closure. The rest of the wig is made with a wig cap that contains hair wefts to create a gorgeous, thick, and natural appearance.

Five-by-five wigs (and 4×4 wigs, for that matter) are a lot like lace front wigs. The most significant difference is that lace fronts have a larger lacy portion on the hairline, a whopping 13 inches.

Pros of a 5×5 Lace Wig

Now you know that a 5×5 lace wig simply means five inches in width and length on the lace cap.

That doesn’t do you a whole lot of good now, does it?

If you came to this article wanting to know whether or not a 5×5 lace wig was the right choice for you, then check out my comprehensive list of all of the “pros” associated with this type of wig.

1. Great for Beginners

Full lace wigs are fabulous wigs to wear. However, they can be tricky to work with, considering they contain so much lace.

If the thought of endless lace concerns you, then you might consider going the 5×5 route.

Because 5×5 wigs are designed with only a small area of lace, they’re easier to work with, and you can create a natural appearance with ease – even if you’re new to the world of wig-wearing.

2. Decent Parting Options

Now, I will be honest with you – if you want endless possibilities when it comes to parting your wig, you’re better off going with a lace front or full lace wig.

But if you don’t mind keeping your parting options within a five-by-five area, you can certainly opt for a 5×5 lace wig. (Trust me – that still offers plenty of versatility, and it’s more room than you’ll get with a 4×4 lace wig!)

3. Natural Appearance

Less lace might mean fewer parting options, but that’s not too big of a deal – especially because 5×5 lace wigs offer an impeccably natural appearance.

With less lace to deal with, you’ll only have to focus on a small area to “fix up” until it looks natural.

So, if you don’t want to spend hours in front of your mirror trying to make your wig look like the “real deal,” you might appreciate the straightforwardness of a 5×5.

4. A Little Bigger

If you have a small to average head shape, then a 4×4 lace wig will create the ideal fit.

If your head is a bit bigger, then you’ll find that the 4×4 lace wig is just too small.

What’s a girl to do?

I’ll tell you what to do – opt for a 5×5 lace wig instead.

Five-by-five wigs are slightly larger than their 4×4 lace wig counterparts, offering a secure and comfortable fit for slightly larger head shapes.

5. Cost-Effective

I don’t know about you, but I love saving money.

That brings us to the final perk of a 5×5 lace wig – they’re cheaper than many other types of wigs.

That doesn’t mean they’re not as good as other types of wigs, though.

Five-by-five wigs are spectacular, beautiful, and natural-looking. The only reason for the lower price tag is that there is less lace – which many find a “perk” anyways.

Alright, ladies and gents! I hope you have a better understanding of 5×5 lace wigs and can make an informed decision on whether or not this is the right wig for you. If you still think you need to learn more, here are a few frequently asked questions to help you out.

What is the difference between 4×4 and 5×5 lace wigs?

The difference between a 4×4 and 5×5 lace wig is the lace cap size. A 4×4 wig has a lace cap that is four inches long by four inches wide. A 5×5 lace wig is slightly larger, with five inches in length and five inches in width. It’s better for somewhat larger head shapes and sizes.

What are lace sizes for wigs?

Lace sizes for wigs refer to the length and width of the lace cap. For example, a 4×4 lace wig has four inches of length and four inches of width, which is best suited for small and average head sizes. Those with larger head sizes may prefer a 6×6 lace wig with a lace cap with six inches long and six inches wide.

Which is better, 4×4 or 5×5?

Both wigs are excellent options and come with a slew of pros. However, the 5×5 lace wig has a slight upper edge, especially for those with a slightly larger head size. A 5×5 lace wig also offers a bit more parting options compared to a 4×4 lace wig.

Is the 5×5 Lace Wig Right For You?

A 5×5 lace wig simply has a lace cap that’s five inches in length and width. That said, it’s better for slightly larger head shapes and sizes. It also offers more wiggle room for parting and styling options, which many prefer. They’re easy to install and offer impeccably natural appearances.
